Singing in the Rain

So I woke this morning with a start--some big crashing sound. My first thought, honestly, was that one of the surrounding construction sites just suffered a horrible accident. But then in a few moments the crashing sound happened again. This time I couldn't deny that it was the sound of thunder. I threw open the window to let the steady droll/patter lull me back to sleep. Instead I was entertained by regular hoots, hollers, and singing-in-the-rain splashing from celebratory locals--thrilled at the treat of this once a year downpour.

So I finely got up to discover what the storm had left in its wake. Well, the parking lot is a lake. The desert safari has been cancelled. Dorms are flooded. Traffic is nuts. People stand around staring. All this reminds me of a foot of snow in Minneapolis... or an inch in Seattle.

Wow that is a lot of water!! It looks like they are not very good at grading their pavement. They probably don't get enough water to worry about it very often.

Okay, so this inquiry has nothing to do with your rainy post, however, I've been wondering: What kinds of opinions have been swimming among you and your american aud friends regarding the port gate issue that has recently flooded the media here in your home country?...(and how does living in the place that has been central to all of the debate shape your thoughts and opinions?) (I noticed norm also made a comment related to this.) In the meantime, I'll check some of your links to see if any of your blogpals have been writing on this topic.
ps. I couldn't find the shot of you singing and swinging from a lamp post!

Hey Colin, I love this picture- my favorite movie. Well I am glad you got to see what rain is like in Dubai. I can't believe all that water. Reminds me a time last year here when all of our streets were flooded and I couldn't get home.
I haven't been as diligent with reading your blog, I am sorry. I Miss you a lot! I realized how sad it was the other night when I only set four places to eat.
